Provincial MNU Presidents Report |
-> Report on the current bargaining issues, some progress being made slowly. Our strength is in our solidarity. Pension being the first issues possibly a 1.2-% from both sides and this continues to be a priority. -> Provincially the index pension is one of the big concerns, based on cola or a part there of. -> We are having a growing number of nurses under age 30 who are also concerned with the pension issues. This will be adressed. -> Language issues are a continued discussion at the bargaining table -> Nationally the only collective agreements are Alberta Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Alberta has declared that they have no nursing shortage and they are closing beds and laying off nurses as well there are layoffs in BC -> This is not a problem here we are currently a short 1500 nurses and the idea of a wage freeze is not going to be accepted. -> Feelings across the province are that the nurses are satisfied, with the union. The majorities of nurses are positive with the work environment and are satisfied. 3 of 4 nurses would recommend nursing as a career and that is good. -> 9 of 10 nurses still feel that big issue is workload continue to encourage nurses to fill out the WLSR’s without them it is hard to make changes happen if nobody is reporting a problem then there must not be one. -> The H1N1 clinics went very well -> Sandi has been acclaimed as the president of the MNU for another 2 years. -> Question from the floor, Are we going to remain in the 4th paid position in wages? Keeping MB in 4th was a one time only position currently we are in 5th. And is certainly a concern being looked at. -> Q—where does the province get the idea that there is no shortage, the government has made health care a priority and we hope they will continue this position, I will not speak for them but we can hope they continue to do so…discussion ensued -> Q-how long will the contract be for—that will be decided at the end, our last one was 2 years but 3 would be better depending on the wages and benefits package that is settled on. It has yet to be discussed |

Worksite President’s Report |
-> We have become a region with Bluma Levine as the President and Marcya Williamson as the VP -> Issue with delegated task being looked at, please continue to bring all issues forward to the union so we may continue to fight our bargaining unit work being dispersed to HCA’s -> Working alone is a priority with WHS and continues to be discussed at all the meetings -> RTW- meetings are busy we have had 200+ meetings in the last year and continue to go well we are helping many of our brothers and sisters to return to work. The employer is continuing to assist funding with this by allotting a 0.3EFT to the President to attend these meetings. -> Rotations are a hot topic, and we ask that all of us give input when asked as we will all be happier if we work together to accomplish a working rotation, if you have a workable rotation submit one copy to your Team Manager and one to the Worksite -> New your worksite has developed an education fund available to our members we will be placing $5000 from the regular chequing account to start it up and then hope to have it funded by the EI Rebate was we get further information from the employer. The fund will give $250 to each nurse in Home Care towards an Educational course union or nursing related. further information can be found on our web site including the policy and application form. -> It has been a busy year with updates to the web site we have revamped the entire website to include more information, and educational opportunities. President and Secretary, Treasurer CFNU. The executive has been to contract interpretation sessions, Labour School and Provincial AGM -> Presentation of the blue ribbon award, this award is given to a nurse that has been nominated by colleagues for efforts above and beyond the basics unionism and nursing. The 2nd annual award was presented to Pat Law from the Fort Garry Office. |
